Skagit Anacortes Folkdancers is a group of about fifty people (20-30 per dance) with only one purpose: To dance a wide variety of folkdances from a variety of ethnicities, sponsoring teaching classes where possible to further that aim. Our dances are heavier on eastern European line dancing than say Vienniese Waltzes, but yes we do Waltzes, Hambos, Scottisches and Israeli circles to name a few. Although mainly Eastern European line dances. Yeah, we sure like Balkan Dancing but it also affords a casual flexibility unconstrained by the need for a partner. And no partner means you can jump in and out of the twenty person line as you desire.
We have monthly or bimonthly potlucks before weekend dances and in the summer before our Tuesday sessions. We consider all our members part of our community or village. To be a member just show up and dance. Dress is standard casual non-urban folk dance duds. Skagit style.
About You
You are either an existing dance fiend or a curious person thinking of trying us out. Either way or anywhere in the middle, WE WANT YOU! YOU may be the next dance prodigy, or the next "best potluck dish bringer" or our next volunteer. And we know you will be our next dance friend!
We all crave community in today's isolating and frenetic world. We also crave physical activity with more meaning than simply running on a treadmill, at whatever level most appropriate for each of us. We crave human connection. Social dancing fills those needs. Dancing delays Alzheimers, increases cardio health, and makes us happy. Whats not to like? Maybe the potlucks. Many of us complain that we eat too much at the potlucks. Its probably best to skip the potlucks and just come for dessert.
